DON’T MISS: Our Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 coverage! Head on HERE to see our posts about it!

New smartphone announcements fills out our headlines lately, and with the on-going Mobile World Congress in Barcelona until the 1st day of March, we’re here to bring you the latest from that worldwide event.

While Sony didn’t ride on the rumor train before MWC with the Sony Xperia XZ Pro, we’ve expected them to release new smartphones at Barcelona. Today, they’ve announced several additions to their flagship handsets, in the name of Xperia XZ2 and its compact sibling, the XZ2 Compact – both has 18:9 displays, which is a first on Sony.

The new phones sport a Full HD+ HDR-enabled 18:9 display, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 SoC with Gigabit LTE, and runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

While we can consider both as twins despite the notable reduction in size of the compact variant, a bulkier body, different camera layout, smaller battery, and slower LTE modem was also given to the XZ2 Compact, which sounds weird because both are powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset.

A fluid 3D glass surface replaces the company’s former OmniBalance design philosophy. This new design is said to be more comfortable to hold by hand with its curved edges. It makes use of metal and Gorilla Glass 5 for the best protection possible.

The Xperia XZ2 also comes with some new cool tech, such as Dynamic Vibration System for a more realistic video, audio and gaming experience.

First to record in 4K HDR on any smartphone

The capability to record videos in 4K HDR is the first in any smartphone – and the Xperia XZ2 just do that. In addition to that impressive feat, it is also capable of shooting at ISO 51200 for photo and ISO 12800 for video, making low-light shooting much better.
